First of all, welcome to INGENDR. It’s a pleasure to have you here.
This magazine was born out of a desire to center the voices of transmasculine creators in a free digital space that balances the need for privacy with the urgency of sharing our stories in a world that is largely ignorant about, and yet fascinated by, “the trans experience”. (Whatever that means.)
It is this editor’s opinion that there is no one “trans experience” or “trans identity” or even “trans community”. Rather, there are hundreds and hundreds of stories of what it is to be trans and masculine, or trans and not-so-masculine. It is these stories that I hope to share with you here.
While INGENDR is committed to publishing primarily works by transmasculine creators, not all of those works will necessarily deal directly with gender–nor should they. As Bobby Berk would say, queer is a pillar, not the whole house. I fervently believe that all the stories we have to tell, regardless of how queer they may seem, will contribute to a broader understanding of what it means to be queer and masculine.
Finally, reader, you must know that your role here is a special one. INGENDR is a community publication: I encourage you to interact with what you read here by sharing, commenting, and creating new works in response. Then, at the end of each month, I will compile your submissions and responses into a more traditional magazine format that you can download and share.
I hope you’ll seize the opportunity to join in this exciting journey with me. I can’t wait to see where it takes us.
All the best,
